PURE GROOVE BLOGiTORIAL #3 - albums of the year!

Sup kids. What's going on?

THIS is:

kotki dwa. Robins Clogs. 7" w/ free photo! / Download (from Monday)

kotki dwa. That’s kotki not kokti. And it’s kotki with a small k. Right, now your lesson in this band’s name (which came from a Polish lullaby, Eastern European sleepsong fans) has concluded, it’s time we told you about this week’s single of the week. It’s happier than Grandpa on Xmas Day with a bottle of sherry, more brightly coloured than a decorated Crimbo tree, and comes loaded with more free gifts than a chubby red man with flying horses. Sunshine pop for winter, it’s a prelude to their amazing looking London show next Saturday night that features live music, films, stageshows, magic acts, dancing monkeys in wetsuits and more! We’re not sure about some of those but we’ll all be there anyway!

The band gave us loads of amazing artwork bits (come into the shop to see the collage Gina made!) and with every 7" we are giving away a photo from the making of the video (while stocks last).

Wrap the AMAZING aforementioned video around your iris:

WOW!

Gideon Conn. I Want You Around. 10" / free instore Saturday.

Newest kid on the block Gideon Conn is comin atcha for what could be more fun than a bag full of tickle-sticks this Saturday at the shop, lets say 4pm. The single "i want you around" is out now and is all over the Radio like a hip-hop rash (that is the BEST kind of rash you can have!) Skippidy-pow!

White Williams. Smoke. Exclusive import CD album.

Album of the week comes from White Williams, a multicoloured electronic pop journey that has been tickling us like a Christmas puppy in these chilly December days. The ever-so talented Joe Williams, whose addiction to painting his face in Tippex as a child gave him the bandname, hails from the U S of A, and we are privileged enough to have import copies of this wonderful release. Fans of our very own Whitey and Hot Chip (who aren’t part of the Puregroove family by blood but we still like to consider them part of the tribe; a bit like your Uncle Terry that’s not actually your mum or dad’s brother) will find Smoke slips on as comfortably as a snug woolly jumper on the 25th of December, but unlike said gift from mother, you won’t be sending this off to a new home at the charity shop three days later. Please note - the comment about Tippex really isn’t true.

no video, but get involved with this mesmerizing picture:

Friendly Fires. Paris. Single out now.

“One day, we’re gonna live in Paris, I promise, I’m on it…” – Now the lead singer from Friendly Fires is either a soppy romantic, or he’s planning to go canoeing tonight, vanish, then start a new life in the City of Love under a new name, where his other half will join him and they’ll live happily ever after spending the money they made from his disappearance. All the time, his duped bandmates will be sitting at home asking how it all went wrong just when they released one of 2007’s best singles. We reckon it’s the first option. But if he misses a gig in the next few days due to a ‘canoeing incident’ then you know where to look. Anyhows… what a song! Huge euphoric pads, a lovely percussive groove, a huge lifting chorus – it’s the party tune of the season!

Lykke Li. Little Bit. 10".

Lykke Li might sound like a character from Streetfighter but there ain’t no kicks to the senses in this beautiful EP from the Swedish lass. Instead, it’s a pillow of softly cushioned off-kilter melodic pop music that takes you on a magic carpet ride through the skies while keeping you warm with a blanket of goose-feathered melodic lovliness. She’s currently one of the buzz acts around, dragging A&Rs on a global mission to the many places she’s playing, but they could have just sauntered down to sunny Archway and snapped up one of these little gems. Only 20 in store – which’ll be gone soon…

And also y'know what? We have the very 1st release by Foals & Tired Irie at our download shop.
