BLOGiTORIAL 4 - with Xmas present included.

Bands dem good:

Munch Munch. Wedding EP. 7" / Download.

Now regular readers (are there any of you?!!!) will know that we’re massive fans of a cheap seats pun here, and rarely miss an opportunity to crowbar in some absolute stinkers in what is meant to be a music editorial. So when we voted on having Munch Munch – The Wedding as single of the week, you could almost see the monkeys start hammering on the typewriters inside our tiny, easily amused, minds. So why not chew on this mouthful of shoddy ways of describing how wonderful this record really is. It gobbles up everything else this week, bringing a marriage of musical ingredients that’s got the experimentalism of Heston Blumenthal, the sex appeal of Anthony Worral Thompson – just kidding! we mean Nigella Lawson…honest, and the pucka power of Jamie Oliver. Anyway, it’s one of the best things we’ve heard in ages – and if this lot keep writing tunes as half as good as this in 2008, then they’ll be no way of separating it from your stereo. A blissful union of all that’s good in modern guitar music.

Hear a sample of the EP at our myspace, yo!

Check out those nutso guys in action:

Kitsune Maison Vol 5. 12" out now.

Also making us run around the streets punching the air and hugging strangers – this is what people do in Archway – is the tiny amount of super upfront vinyl promos of Kitsune Maison 5. Literally a handful of these badboys, and naturally the fastest cats in town will be the ones to grab ‘em. Are you a fast cat? Prove it! It’s packed with all sorts of weird and wonderful tings from beat meddlers uch as Alan Braxe – who turns in a Timbaland-esque stomper, Teenagers, Late Of The Pier, MIA and Digitalism. You’ll be 11.8% cooler with this in your collection.

Public Service Broadcast. 5quid CD for 22 tracks!

Compilations; they can bless you with music that you had no idea existed; sounds that enrich your life and lead you off down thrillingly new and exciting tangents. And Public Service Broadcast Nine is packed with all sorts of bits that have pricked up our ears. It’s not consistently amazing, but with 22 tracks for a fiver, there’s more than enough to justify your moonah. Take House of Brothers for instance – it’s ace and still relatively unknown; take Tiger Force for example – OK, we’re biased but Beat This is still the best clapping song since Clapping Song; take Holy Fuck as case in point – one of the bands of 2007 and you get a song here that’s not on their mesmeric debut album (one of our top 10s of the year chart fans). So you can’t really complain (unless you name is Ebeneezer Scooge and you’ve not yet been visited by otherworldly spirits pointing out that you’re Scooge and you’ve not yet been visited by otherworldly spirits pointing out that you’re a rude fucker and that you should maybe cheer up). Album of the week!!!

Also out: Hadouken - Not Here To Please You (USB), Lady Fortune - 12 O Clock, Nearly 1 O Clock, Hurry Up, Crystal Castles - Air War - Seven Inch, Marquis Cha Cha Special Offer – Cheap Bundles!, Marina And The Diamonds - Mermaid Vs Sailor, Ice Sea Dead People - Hence Elvis, Crystal Castles vs HEALTH - Crimewave / Xxzxcuze Me.

PURE GROOVE BLOGiTORIAL #3 - albums of the year!

Sup kids. What's going on?

THIS is:

kotki dwa. Robins Clogs. 7" w/ free photo! / Download (from Monday)

kotki dwa. That’s kotki not kokti. And it’s kotki with a small k. Right, now your lesson in this band’s name (which came from a Polish lullaby, Eastern European sleepsong fans) has concluded, it’s time we told you about this week’s single of the week. It’s happier than Grandpa on Xmas Day with a bottle of sherry, more brightly coloured than a decorated Crimbo tree, and comes loaded with more free gifts than a chubby red man with flying horses. Sunshine pop for winter, it’s a prelude to their amazing looking London show next Saturday night that features live music, films, stageshows, magic acts, dancing monkeys in wetsuits and more! We’re not sure about some of those but we’ll all be there anyway!

The band gave us loads of amazing artwork bits (come into the shop to see the collage Gina made!) and with every 7" we are giving away a photo from the making of the video (while stocks last).

Wrap the AMAZING aforementioned video around your iris:

Gideon Conn. I Want You Around. 10" / free instore Saturday.

Newest kid on the block Gideon Conn is comin atcha for what could be more fun than a bag full of tickle-sticks this Saturday at the shop, lets say 4pm. The single "i want you around" is out now and is all over the Radio like a hip-hop rash (that is the BEST kind of rash you can have!) Skippidy-pow!

White Williams. Smoke. Exclusive import CD album.

Album of the week comes from White Williams, a multicoloured electronic pop journey that has been tickling us like a Christmas puppy in these chilly December days. The ever-so talented Joe Williams, whose addiction to painting his face in Tippex as a child gave him the bandname, hails from the U S of A, and we are privileged enough to have import copies of this wonderful release. Fans of our very own Whitey and Hot Chip (who aren’t part of the Puregroove family by blood but we still like to consider them part of the tribe; a bit like your Uncle Terry that’s not actually your mum or dad’s brother) will find Smoke slips on as comfortably as a snug woolly jumper on the 25th of December, but unlike said gift from mother, you won’t be sending this off to a new home at the charity shop three days later. Please note - the comment about Tippex really isn’t true.

no video, but get involved with this mesmerizing picture:

Friendly Fires. Paris. Single out now.

“One day, we’re gonna live in Paris, I promise, I’m on it…” – Now the lead singer from Friendly Fires is either a soppy romantic, or he’s planning to go canoeing tonight, vanish, then start a new life in the City of Love under a new name, where his other half will join him and they’ll live happily ever after spending the money they made from his disappearance. All the time, his duped bandmates will be sitting at home asking how it all went wrong just when they released one of 2007’s best singles. We reckon it’s the first option. But if he misses a gig in the next few days due to a ‘canoeing incident’ then you know where to look. Anyhows… what a song! Huge euphoric pads, a lovely percussive groove, a huge lifting chorus – it’s the party tune of the season!

Lykke Li. Little Bit. 10".

Lykke Li might sound like a character from Streetfighter but there ain’t no kicks to the senses in this beautiful EP from the Swedish lass. Instead, it’s a pillow of softly cushioned off-kilter melodic pop music that takes you on a magic carpet ride through the skies while keeping you warm with a blanket of goose-feathered melodic lovliness. She’s currently one of the buzz acts around, dragging A&Rs on a global mission to the many places she’s playing, but they could have just sauntered down to sunny Archway and snapped up one of these little gems. Only 20 in store – which’ll be gone soon…

And also y'know what? We have the very 1st release by Foals & Tired Irie at our download shop.

Word to your mothers.

Here is the juice:

JOSE VANDERS. Transactional Language. CD / Download.

Now her official T-shirts tell us that Jose Vanders Is Nang. Just how nang is Jose Vanders though? We’ll tell you. Very nang. So nang in fact that her debut mini-album is our nangest album of the week. Just what are we talking about? Jose Vanders that’s who! Oh… you’ve heard of her, you’re meaning what the ‘ell is all this nang shizzle that we’re chatting? Well let Puregroove be not only your guardian of new music but a guide to what the kids are muttering about behind your back. Nang means bad and bad means good, so what we’re clumsily saying is that Jose Vanders is ace! A real star in the making, we’ve already shipped boxes of these all over the world – it’s clear that people around the globe are sensing a future superstar! Album of the week!

This jose video below, that WE made yeah, ALSO acts as an album sampler. Are we clever?

. We Know All About You. Limited 7"

Single of the week goes to the scary sounding Ebony Bones. And the music is equally ominous – we’re calling it voodoo pop. We Know All About You could well become the theme music to Britain, what us being in a civil liberty-smashing CCTV culture (ooh ooh bit of political satire….) and for all we know it might be about that. Tricky to find out for sure as we’re too busy dancing around the shop high-fiving each other about just how freekin’ funky this record is. A splash of Basement Jaxx, a dash of ESG, a smidgeon of Nina Simone and a whipping of DFA magic – all stirred together and turned into 7 inches of pure evil pop joy. One of our fave singles of the year for sure.

Ebony Bones on the brilliant Liveroom TV:

HOLY HAIL. Big Guns – Limited to 100 12" vinyl!

Holy Hail Batman! What the hell is it this time Robin? Well Batman, I was just looking on Puregroove’s website and I found these two awesome releases by New York hot stuff Holy Hail! Well add it to your cart then cos we need something to bump in the Batmobile to seduce hot Batgirls! Pow! Now this conversation might or might not have happened but what definitely happened is that a 7” arrived from the wonderful Adventures Close To Home label, and that another 12” arrived from America. Amazing that a record can swim so far but heck, it wanted to be in Puregroove! Fab and mega groovy dancefloor alt-guitar doesn’t come any better.

THAT FUCKING TANK. Limited 7" picture disk with DVD!

Now we’re f@#king massive fans of swearing; it’s big, it’s clever and it means we can still chat to the kids, seeing as most little scrotes are experts in it by the age of four. Hold on, we’ve just endorsed swearing and then took a swipe at the entire of youth for using cursive language. Maybe we’re onto something here in terms of solving social problems.
Anyway, That Fu@@ing Tank are a band that like noise as much as expletives and their new record contains enough sonic power to finish off an injured animal. But not only is the record fab, it’s probably the coolest picture disc we’ve seen this month. Plus, you get a DVD of extra footage from their European tour. Which makes you the luckiest sod in town and your neighbour the unluckiest.

DVD trailer:

(its not as scary/sexual as that still clip looks.)

Bearsuit - Foxy Boxer, Middleman - Good To Be Back, Royworld – Elasticity, Bridge Gang - London Sky Tonight/Sarah’s Brother, I Blame Coco - I Blame Coco, Love Ends Disaster – Suzanne, Stuffy / The Fuses - Metal Queen Theme, Miranda Lee Richards – Lifeboat, The New Royal Family - Anyone Fancy A Chocolate Digestive?, Big Face - I Wanna Be A Style Crusader, Kid Harpoon - First EP – CD, Todosantos - Acid Girlzz EP - Plus Free 3D Glasses And DVD, Various - Ze Records Xmas Reloaded 2004.

Pure Groove Blogitorial 1

YO! This is our 1st Mailout/Blog/news/editorial. Lets call it a BLOGATORIAL, shall we? All release info/ audio clips / videos and dirt dishing you will find within these pages. Read on.

THOMAS TANTRUM. Shake It Shake It. 7" / download.

Single of the week! Thomas Tantrum’s 2nd single has taken almost a year to materialise but we’re not going to sulk. Especially when it’s as joyous a winter ditty as Shake It Shake It is. Singer Megan has one of those voices that sticks out like a bodypopping nun on the morning bus, although thankfully it’s much more soothing and much less distressing than said breakdancing member of the cloth might be. A masterfully controlled blues voice caressing one of the best indie-pop ditties of the year, and it works a treat.

There is no video for the new Thomas Tantrum single. So instead here is a video of a kid called Thomas, who is having a Tantrum-

EMMY THE GREAT. Gabriel. 7" / download

Oh how we love Emmy. Back with her third single, Gabriel is as hauntingly beautiful as Miss The Great’s previous work. In a world where singer-songwriters are as plentiful as milk and honey, it takes something special to stand out as more than just a bod with a guitar strapped to their chest and a chain of bad relationships to whinge about. And Emmy is one of a small handful of such souls who genuinely give you the tingles when you hear their songs.

The mp3 comes with a free live track!

She’s coming in the shop at Christmas to play some of her hits as well as a festive number or two. Monday 17th December for that show (Kid Harpoon is joining us too!), while RIGHT NOW is when you can order the single. To whet your appetite, check this footage of her instore show from a few months back. This makes us pretty special right? This song is Easter Parade-

Emmy The Great myspace.

IPSO FACTO. Harmonise. 7" only.

They played the VICE 5th birthday party last night to rapturous acclaim – a massively packed audience (all chasing the free beer but no doubt pleased to hear such an impressive show from a new band) screaming out for the Horrors’ new besssie fwends. Who we chatting ‘bout? Ipso Facto that’s who. You might not know who they are yet but it won’t be long before you’re chiselling your barnet into a similarly unique shape. For this lot look as good as they sound – you can see why the Strange House fellas love em’ so much.

Munch Munch. Wedding EP. Download.

Another brand new addition to Pure Groove Digital is the amazing Wedding EP by the amazing Munch Munch. Recently featured on the David Shrigley Comp on Tomlab, this band could change the way you see the world. Trip-out to thier new tracks at our myspace.and you can download the tracks NOW.

Munch Munch noise room video:

Filthy Dukes are familiar names to anyone that likes a drink and a boogie in London (which is quite a few folk) having run numerous clubnights around the capital. The Barfly, Fabric, Lock Tavern – all rooms that have been ripped to shreds by the tag-team’s deadly DJ mixes. A few remixes followed, most notably their legendary Rakes rework and now the pair (now in fact a trio since joined by production whiz kid Mark Ralph) are about to unveil their first body of work under their own name. Debut single This Rhythm is a corking nu-romo electronic groover that features the vox of one Samuel Dust from Late Of The Pier. Can’t wait to hear the album, and we’re predicting that they’ll soon be global megastars jetting all over the globe sipping champagne and hanging out with Kanye. But they’ll still have time to pop into their fave local record shop. Which is Puregroove!

Also out…

Dead Kids - Fear And Fluoride, The Broken Hearts - Black Cat / Blanco, Good Shoes - Small Town Girl (Two Discs), Friends Of The Bride - So You Think You Can Dance?, The Steps Yelle - A Cause Des Garcons, Champion Kickboxer – Candlepower, The Xcerts - Just Go Home, Napoleon IIIrd - In Debt To - Signed Copies, I Blame Coco - I Blame Coco. <---- this is a big seller, & limited so SNOOZE & YOU LOOZE!

In early next week… Ebony Bones – We Know All About You, Chemical Brothers – Battlescars (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve Mix), Klaxons - As Above So Below (Justice Mix/French Version), Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - The Beat That My Heart Skipped (Limited Repress), Foals - Balloons,Ox.Eagle.Lion.Man - Motherhood / Fatherhood, Kotki Dwa - Robin's Clogs, Adam Kesher - Happy Vandals EP, Various - Public Service Broadcast 9 (feat Holy Fuck / Tiger Force etc.)

One more video? Jose Vanders live here and at In The City Manchester. LOADS more footage coming soon.

We got LOTS of exclusive videos.Tune in and dont touch that dial.

So Yeah! Come speak to us, come get involved. For the love of God please buy some records! Love you!
